(2) The original specification for the aluminum lighting pipe calls for welding an extra piece of aluminum to the pipe to give it more strength. The manufacturer is afraid that even with the reinforcement of the extra piece, aluminum would not be strong enough for such a long piece of pipe. So, in the experiment, we used galvanized Iron pipe instead. We discovered it is very difficult, if not impossible, for a man to hold a pole of over 20 ft. long steady enough to hook the lamp from its base in the ceiling. This would be true even with aluminum pipe although a lighter material would help somewhat.3) After checking over the drawings, we find the balcony not wide enough for the spiral stairs after all. We are going back to the original straight stairs except that they be placed at the end bays instead of the 2nd bays from the end walls so that the stairs would interfere with the floor space as little as possible. We changed aluminum to concrete at the urging of the engineers for structural reasons. The end of the balcony will be trimmed with aluminum plate. Concrete is also more economical.(4) I believe Miss Priest refers to the movable platform inside the building and not the outside platform leading to the entrance…,“... Everything in the construction program is moving along smoothly as far as we are concerned. All the buildings, with the exception of the auditorium part of the gymnasium-auditorium will be ready by the time school opens. The auditorium may not be finished before November 1. But we are rushing everything as much as we can without hurting."
