This paper presents the Cochlear Laser TransductionModel for photon absorption due to laser stimulation ofthe spiral ganglion cells in the basilar membrane of theinner ear. The work presented here is an extension of theWang plane parallel model and provides enhanced fidelityresulting from the more realistic modeling of curvedmultilayers. The model tracks the path and energydeposition of a single photon as it scatters, reflects, transmits, and is absorbed through the various slab layers.A large number of photons were run through the slabmodel. The absorption and path of each photon wastracked in three dimensions and then averaged todetermine the three dimensional expected value forphoton absorption and path (Monte Carlo technique). Inthis fashion, a three dimensional Green’s function ofabsorption was obtained for the tissue. In this paper, weconvolve that Green’s function with a pulsed laser diodeprofile to obtain the predicted tissue absorption responseand compare the analytic results to the experimentalresults presented in Izzo
