1st LD Writethru: 9 killed by overturned truck in central India
NEW DELHI, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Nine villagers were killed Monday in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh when a overturned truck fell on them while they were allegedly stealing goods from it, said police.
The incident took place in Durg district. More than 100 villagers tried to steal things from the overturned truck, which lost balance and fell on them,
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has announced compensation of 50,000 rupees (800 U.S. dollars) each to the kin of the killed.
Chhattisgarh is one of the poorest states of India
