Every September, swimming enthusiasts from home and abroad gather at Sun Moon Lake for the annual Cross-Lake Swim Meet. Begun in 1983, this is the area's oldest continuous event. Every year, this increasingly popular event draws over 10,000 people to the lake to swim across together.
All persons 10 years or over, regardless of whether they are from Taiwan or not (minors must accompany persons in the participating organization who have lifesaving skills and who can take responsibility for their safety during the entire journey) can take part in this activity if they are in good health, and possess the ability to swim long-distance. If registering as a group, the participating group must include 10 or more persons.
Registration simply involves filling in detail the “Registration Form and Swimming Ability Certificate” and the “Payment Details Form” provided for by the convention. You are also required to voluntarily take responsibility for arranging safety insurance, and must affix a copy of your insurance premium. You may send your registration fee by post office transfer.
Cross-lake Swim location: This activity commences at the Chaowu Wharf, and concludes at the Dehua Wharf. Swimmers can prepare their own basic safely equipment, such as floating boards, buoys, and life-rings. Please take note that in the interests of safety, any cords used to tie these safely equipment should be made of cotton or linen, and you should not use PVC plastic cords. This activity is different from other swimming competitions in that the participants are requested to use a slow, relaxed swimming style so that they can enjoy Sun Moon Lake’s beautiful mountain and lake scenery, and feel the crystal-clear lake waters. All swimming participants and will be presented with swimming caps, a swimming completion certificate, a lunch box, drinks, and a souvenir, etc., by the sponsoring organizations. This will provide you with a proud memory!
