As can be observed from Fig. 12(c) and (d), the stresses in boltpresented a non-uniform distribution under axial tensile loading. Thestress in bolt threads screwed into the sphere is relatively small, but thecloser to the surface of the sphere, the larger the bolt stress. A largeproportion of the load stress carried by the first meshing thread rootbetween the bolt and sphere. The stress in the smooth portion of boltshank is small and remains stable. Moreover, stress concentration reappearsat the shank-nut junction but at a lower degree than that atthread root due to excessive smoothness at the junction. Compared withthe bolt, the stress in the bolted sphere is very small due to its largestrength and stiffness.
