Modern psychology is quite literally in the dark ages. Not much has changed since Freud entered the scene in the 1800’s. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is still considered the “gold standard” of therapy since its introduction in 1960. We diagnose without much context of the lived experience of the human diagnosed. We expect people to live with “mental illness” as if it is a life sentence rather than what I and many others have come to know it to be: symptoms with a message.
