In this study, treatment with epigallocatechin gallate reduced the expression of Bcl-2 and nuclear factor-kB as possible pathways for apoptotic mechanism. Additionally, this study indicated that epigallocatechin gallate increased the expression of Bax (regulates apoptotic signaling), p53 (gene altered in cancer cells), caspase-9 and caspase-3 (control of cell death), and release of cytochrome c (protein associated with inner layer of mitochondrial membrane).
