Dementia care requires the transition from a multidisciplinary to an interdisciplinary care team approach. A multidisciplinary approach Is defined as being non-integrative, while an interdisciplinary approach crosses the boundaries of each discipline. The key com- ponent that differentiates these two approaches is collaboration. No one discipline can possess the sole knowledge or expertise to address a problem. The combined contribution is much greater than any one discipline can offer. Integrating the knowledge of each discipline while harmonizing and transcending the traditional boundaries will move us close to an interdisciplinary approach.
