ENGLISH REPORT: RECYCLING LITHIUM BATTERYLithium battery pollution issuesThe lithium-ion battery has played an integral role in powering the modern-day world–but questions remain about its environmental impact.l IntroductionBatteries are an integral part of life in the 21st century, providing the world with electricity in a convenient, portable format. But the main flaw with a number of batteries – including lead acid and nickel cadmium – is that they tend to run flat relatively quickly and are then, ultimately, thrown away. This means it's not just the pockets of the average person taking a hit, but also the environment.2 Development of batteriesIn 1800,Italian physicist Alexandro Volta invent the fist device to controllably release electrical energy,Volta battery. The first chargeable battery, lead battery,is invented from Franch Planter in 1859,and commercial lithium battery is invented in 1991,which after morn than 100 years.3 Advantage1.convenience2.Fast charging speed3.high energy density4.no memory effectThe lithium battery is very convenience,it has no memory effect, which means when fully charged without being fully discharged and was going to use less electric power than before.Because of its chemical property, lithium battery can release more energy and charge fast than others.4 Disadvantage1.explosive risk2.Pollution of heavy metal3.manufacture cost is higher4.aging fears heatBy the way, beacuse of its chemical property,it is very unstable and may explode. Its compositions are some pricey metal,so the cost is very higher in product the battery. When you use it for a while, your device may heat up fast than you use at first and it lifespans is short.5 Recycling and replacementCurrently, recycled batteries are usually shredded to form a metal mixture, which is then separated using pyrometallurgical techniques, also known as combustion. However, this method wastes a lot of lithium.British researchers are working on alternative technologies, including biorecycling using bacterial treatment materials, and hydrometallurgy using chemical solutions in a similar way to extracting lithium from brine.6 ConclusionLithium battery is convenience,Fast charging speed, high energy density and no memory effect. But,it is very unstable and may explode.Lithium batteries contain a variety of heavy metals, such as lithium and cobalt. These heavy metals have their value. The industry often uses discharge, dipping, solvent extraction, replacement, precipitation, and electrolysis to process the heavy metals in waste lithium batteries. The processing process is not at that time, heavy metal pollution would be caused, and its pollution situation was no less than that caused by other reasons. Therefore, we believe that lithium batteries have undeniably brought a lot of convenience to our lives, but also brought about a large number of pollutant disposal problems and potential explosion risks. Therefore, we should carefully consider other issues caused by lithium batteries while enjoying the convenience brought by the off-battery.
