This is a case-control study. The Patient Information Form, RASS, GCS, and APACHE II data were collected from the patients in the case group (the patient group whose extubation was unplanned) during the first 12 hours after extubation. On the other hand, patients’ APACHE II scores during admission were determined (in the hospital where this research was undertaken, APACHE II data are collected from each patient according to which patient is followed up). Furthermore, for each patient in the case group, 2 intubated patients as control group were selected randomly by casting lots method. The data of the control group were collected during the data collection process of the case group by utilizing the same data collection tools
