The refinement of microstructure allows for higher mechanical
strength and it can be achieved selecting eutectic systems with
low constant, K 1 in Eq. (3). K 1 is determined by the compromise
between the limited mutual solubility at the solidification temperature and the liquidus slope (deep eutectics) that tends to
minimise the microstructure scale and, liquid temperature, T E
(higher solute diffusion) that tends to maximise it. In fact there is
a linear relationship between the square root of K 1 and the
