I have been learning korean but it was difficult to choose a good korean language school. Some considerations include: location (we have many schools in central area, esp Bugis and Orchard, but also good ones in east or west), learning environment (some are more like huge ‘cold’ enterprises or offer no frills lessons, while others are smaller, more cosy and personal) availability (of the right level of Korean courses – placement test may be required, usually just simple written or even verbal assessments. Also, having more classes of the same level increase your chance of going for makeup classes in another class), course length (most are part-time, some may have full-time courses. Length varies from school to school, and even from level to level within a school, but usually around 10 weeks for a single course), timing (courses usually during weekday evenings and anytime on weekend, but private sessions are usually flexible), course materials and style (some schools use popular Korean university texts such as Kyung Hee and Sogang, other make their own) and of course, budget (Just remember that if you pay peanuts, you ay get monkey. Check out this useful reminder: http://pickingupkorean.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/nex-vs-cambridge-language-school-basic-korean-lesson-1-review/). Important also would be the objective for learning whether it’s really for casual and fun learning, to travel Korea, to seek a job in Korea, or to pass that elusive TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) test. This is because different school may focus on different aspects of Korean language, for example, conversational, written, listening etc. Others even include sessions on understanding the culture of Korea, be it food, dance, music, drama. Then, you will have to look at the quality of teachers, since they do vary, and some schools are more established than others. I am currently still in the midst of deciding which school to take for my intermediate korean class as i've completed the basic class. Online reviews have definitely helped me narrow my decisions on choices of schools and classes.
