A method for detecting and reducing ping-pong handovere?cect of a cellular network is disclosed. The method provides a systematic way to determine which cell pairs of thenetwork have high probability of su?cering from the pingpong handover e?‘ect. The method comprises collectingnetwork traf?c statistic data of multiple items, wherein eachof the items corresponds to a state change of multiple mobileunits within cells of the network; determining whether aplurality of criteria are met according to the network traf?cstatistic data; and detecting the ping-pong e?cect between thecells according to the result of the determining step. Themethod also comprises changing a handover parameter forthe cells with the ping-pong handover e?‘ect.
