Purpose-built liquid flow cells for analysis of the silicon/liquid interface were placed on a variable angle sample stage in the NR instrument, and the inlet to the liquid cell was connected to a liquid chromatography pump (L7100 HPLC pump, Merck, Hitachi), which allowed for easy exchange of the solution isotopic contrast within the (3 mL volume) solid–liquid sample cell.
