One hot July day I drove a U-Haul truck packed with all my family’s earthly belongings over a mountain pass and into a little town in the Pacific Northwest. Since I was alone in the truck—my wife and children would join me in a few days—I had lots of time to think and more than enough time to worry. The closer I got to town the more anxious I became. An indefinable and awesome “something” awaited me me in that town. I slowed the truck down to delay the inevitable.
