Diamond cuts and shapes
The terms “shape” and “cut” of a diamond are sometimes confusing.
The team of Zazare Diamonds is here to help you out!
The shape of a cut diamond is the outline or general silhouette when viewed face-up, like round, oval, square and heart shape.
The cut of a diamond refers to the arrangement of the facets. Diamonds have a unique ability to transmit light and intense sparkling. The quality of the cut is therefore crucial for their beauty and value.
Diamond shapes
The Classic Round Brilliant
Virtually all round diamonds are brilliant cut and not without a reason! When cut perfect, with the right angles and proportions, the diamond displays a dazzling fire and brilliance. It is by far the most popular shape, about 75% of all diamonds sold.
The Dynamic Square
Most square - shape diamonds are Princess or Quadrillion cuts. They often create the look of a larger diamond. They make perfect engagement rings, and when choosing a Princess or Quadrillion you need to make sure that all sides are parallel and we advise you a prong setting that protects all corners!
The Rectangle
When you prefer a rectangular shape there is a variety to choose from ! For example, the emerald cut with its elegant outline, it has four sides and four beveled corners and with its large table facet it shows the unique transparency of the diamond ! An emerald cut can have 49 facets or more.
The term emerald cut is traditionally associated with the rectangular shape of an emerald when cut along its natural crystal faces to show its green colour. When selecting an emerald cut diamond of your choice ,make sure it has a high clarity and colour because its large facets do not hide its internal characteristics and its inferiour bodycolour. The Marquise
This shape is named after one of the mistresses of King Louis XV, Madame de Pompadour and, when viewed horizontally, it resembles her lips. This shape is also called Navette, a part of a spinning wheel. Key to its beauty is its symmetry, the slightest difference in symmetry makes the shape look unbalanced and unattractive.
The feminine heart
The ultimate give for Valentines day! The romantic heart shape should have a distinctive cleft and two even wings and symetrical lobes. This romantic shape makes a beautiful pendant.
The elegant pearshape
The pear resembles a teardrop and is a blend of the round brilliant and marquise shape. If this shape is your favorite, make sure that the stone is cut perfectly symetrical ! when the stone is finally set in a ring of your choice, wear the point towards the tip of your finger, it makes your hand look even slimmer!
