Industry Fellows has been demonstrated to be effective in the environment in which it was developed—the four-year university computer science classroom [3,5]. Nevertheless, will the model translate into other contexts, specifically, a two-year community college Web Development program?
Highline College is a community college in the Puget Sound region, offering both transfer degrees and professional-technical degrees, as well as BAS (Bachelor of Applied Science) degrees. The Web Developer program is a two-year professional- technical degree that prepares students to develop dynamic, data-driven websites. Graduates of the program either enter the workforce directly or transfer into a BAS program. Students in the program are 60% male and 40% female. The average age is 31 years. Students come from a wide range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some have technical backgrounds, but most do not.
