The traditional domestic range hood consists mainly of a multibladecentrifugal fan and guiding box and the centrifugal fanincludes a volute and impeller. An increase in the residence timeof COF in the range hood increases the number of grease particlesreaching the wall of the shell of the range hood and results in anincrease in the grease separation efficiency. Comparing with voluteof centrifugal fan, a cylindrical shell can increase the axial flow distanceof the fluid by increasing shell’s axial height. After leavingthe impeller, grease particles undergoing circumferential rotationstrike the surface of the GVE owing to inertial force. Therefore, the volute and guiding box are replaced by an outer cylinder andGVE and the impeller is retained in our proposed range hood. Otherparts of the range hood along with the novel fan embody the structureof the range hood described in this study. Fig. 1 illustrates theprocess of integrating a range hood with the new fan.
