rather than antioxidant-rich diets, such as a vegetarian diet. Inconsistencies in the literature surroundingvegetarian diets and antioxidant status may be due tothe variation of vegetarian diets of the participantsinvolved in the studies. Further research is requiredto assess the antioxidant status of vegetarians, andwhether vegetarian athletes have an advantage inovercoming exercise-induced oxidative stress. Vegetarians who exercise regularly and consume a wellplanned diet could have a reduced risk of developingdisease such as type 2 diabetes, a superior antioxidant status, and be better able to reduce exerciseinduced oxidative stress.
