At present, we started the school of Science already. Worked with Dean Illick for the past week and things are going well, the site been surveyed. But we found the distances between buildings that being built was 4 meters too short in between and almost 3 meters in line between the faces. The error in the siting of man's and Women's dorms were even more fantastic. One found windows and door from no where. In women's dorm #3 the whole length of big opening glass doors where misplaced to the western exposure and the court was broken by having walls butting against the columns of the building so the windows are opened in between the columns and break the continuity. The spiral staircase was orginally placed in the girl’s dorm #3 as a fire escape but you’ll find it in men’s dorm #7 where there are two stairs in that building. All hardware and switches in all the building were badly placed and applied. You had to get behind every door to find the light switch in the dormitories. You have to open some of the doors by cranking the handle passing the key holes. Toilet fixtures’ layouts were so poor you can see boys and girls heads with one expressions and below their heads are doing another things. The girls dorms along were built for 50% more of in cost then it was originally figured. The adm. building alone cost 2 million and the brass rail along in the stair is NT $60,000, (good for a pickup truck). Even we gave them detail the pannellings in the offices were still wrong. It’s a pity to see such beautiful wood panels gone wasted and yet had no way of correcting than palling the whole thing down. Also the school of Arts; a band of additional windows increased the height of.I am making chrefull investigation under pres. Tsengs’ request. I’ll let it know after the work is done.
