7. Rootlessness. Our God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Therefore, men and women of God have roots as old as the world. Further, our rootedness extends into eternity, where the saints, prophets, and apostles worship God. And geographically we belong to a community that wraps around the world. Most significantly, however, this community of of faith is local. Through participation in a local congregation, I am part of a worldwide body that has a history extending all the way back to Abraham and Sarah.
Churches that know what time it is will find new and creative ways to teach and help others experience the rootedness that is central to the Christian faith. Biblical education teaches us about our ancestors in the faith, while worship links us to the church around the world that joins us in song and prayer as well as to the eternal church gathered at God’s throne in ceaseless praise.
