Not being certain if Mr. Chen will sti11be at Tunghai when this reaches you, I am addressing this letter to you and attaching to it the various sketches and notes which Mr. C. K. Chen has just brought in after a conference with Mr. Pei. If Mr. Chen has not yet left, please show him the sketches and notes. For convenience of reference, we have marked the individual drawings each with a red number in a circle, and my comments below are numbered accordingly. 1.Gymnasium-auditorium. In your letter to me of March 24th, you said that there had been some concern over an end wall, about which Mr. Tsai had been consulting the engineers. Sketch # 1 gives some suggestions which C, K, Chang has made after hearing about this problem in a letter from Mr. Chen. Stephen may be interested in seeing this even if the matter has already been settled.2.Infirmary. Mr. Chang was interested to see the simplified plan for the infirmary. Drawings #2 suggests some minor change which he passes on for your consideration in case the construction has not passed the stage where they could be useful. 3., 4., 5., and 6., Men’s Dining-hall. From letter which we received today from Mr.Chen. I realize that he - and possibly others of you - were under the impression that the dining-hall drawing which you sent us two months ago after Dr.Fenn’s cable suthorizing you to go ahead with the dining-hall and the library wings, had been submitted to Mr. Pei for his approval. Actually, we deliberately did not do this - our feeling being that on the various auxiliary buildings (primary school, infirmary, dining- hall) we were not justified in imposing on the time and attention of Mr. Pei. It was our feeling that Mr.Chang and Mr. Chen and the whole group who had worked on the major buildings and groupings are so thoroughly imbued with the spirit of the architectural pattern that it was not necessary to ask Mr. Pei to pass upon these plans. That being the case, when we received the two copies of the dining hall drawing we kept them both here. After C.K. Chang’s return, when be was bringing himself up to date on the building program,
