When I said that I would be making a Gospel album, people asked, “did you hear something from church goers” and the devil replies, “in reality, it is those people [christians] that will criticize and say something”. Now, What this means; When I made the album “Time Travel”, people around me said it was cool. These people weren’t Christians, they weren’t Christ- believers. Just friends and/ or my crew members. But when my Christian friends heard my album, they said “don’t you think this is too religious? I think it`s better you don’t release this. I think this is too burdensome”. Usually non-believers are suppose to make these comments, but believers said this to me more. Kanye West might`ve had a similar experience when releasing his album. Im not sure if I’m understanding Kanye`s “Jesus is King” properly, but I think he would have experienced this. For example, they might have said “you lived a sinner your whole life and now you come out with this Christian- Gospel album?”. I`ve thought that he would have this type of response. The thing about church is that it is a place where many people believe in Christ. But at the same time, they are the most hurting and “dirty” people. I am the same; I am a very “dirty [sinful]” person. When I believe in Christ, I realize how much sin I have. And so, in reading Kanye`s lyrics, because the church is a place where people are trying to better themselves and have these internal issues, I believe Kanye would’ve faced this type of criticism and backlash from the Christian community.
