I love motorcycles. Every year several friends and I take a motorcycle vacation. This year we rode to the fifty-fifth annual Black Hills Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. Several hundred thousand motorcyclists joined us in the largest assembly of Harley-Davidsons in the world. Leather-clad bikers on loud bikes came to see, to be seen, and to party. The crowd was rough, tough, often profane, and sometimes obnoxious.
I thought a lot about the gospel and the Incarnation in this world so far removed from my life as a pastor among God’s people. Sometimes I had to remind myself that God loves each one of these people and that Jesus died for them. I wondered how to tell them about God’s love found in Jesus Christ.
