From 1978 – 1982, Jacques studied viticulture, pomology and cellar technology at Elsenburg Agricultural College where he was awarded Dux (cum-laude and highest academic achiever). He then worked as an assistant winemaker at Simonsig Wine Estate for 1983 and 1984. The Rupert family approached Jacques to develop La Motte Wine Estate where he was the winemaker from 1985 - 2003. Jacques was also appointed as Production Director for Rupert and Rothchild from 1997 – 2003, where he worked with the world renowned wine consultant, Mr Michel Rolland. In 1996, Jacques fulfilled his dreams by starting a small family winery, namely Boschkloof Wines. After the 2010 harvest, Jacques and his family moved to Boschkloof farm where they are currently residing.
