First, this elder does not have a balanced diet , also sometimes she eats unhealthy
food , like French fries, fried chicken wings, dimsum, luncheon meat, preserved
vegetable, cake. Those food are high in fat , salt and sugar. She have obesity and
diabetes , she cannot eat too much salted /preserved food which contain much
sodium ,also she cannot drink too much juice and milk tea which contain much
sugar, these affect her health . In addition, on average elders need about 6 taels of
vegetables and 2 fruits each day ,but she eat few fruits. So that, she absolves less
vitamins . Therefore, she has a unhealthy diet.
On the other sides, she does the exercises everyday. There have some effects of
exercise on disease control. For diabetes , exercises maintain or improve
cardiovascular fitness to prevent or minimize long term cardiovascular complications
, Improve flexibility that is impaired as muscle collagen becomes glycosylated and
muscle strength. For obesity , exercises promote a negative energy balance to burns
calories and reduce the weight. Increase metabolic rate for an extend period after
the activity.
Furthermore, her psychosocial health is good. It is because she always do Tai Chi,
dancing and swimming , these make her feel better and she has increased self-
esteem and reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety. As she exercises with
friends, it provides social life, goal setting and make her have motivation to continue
doing exercises.
