As our group was discussing the state of our culture, it dawned on me that each of those ten cultural markers is powerfully addressed by the gospel. In fact, ancient Israel and the early church went up against forces greater than these and prevailed. The church need not be afraid, defensive, or hidden. If the gospel is the power of God, we should be on the offensive with a message of hope—not despair, a positive word—not a pessimistic message, a redemptive offer—not a hostile rejection.
