Therefore, in spite of the temptation to preach and teach that God is in some way acting differently, manifesting His presence differently, and doing very different things, we must remain true to the clear teaching of the Scriptures. Our God is not getting better, evolving to a higher state, or mellowing out. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. We as Pentecostals have been great at trotting out Hebrews 13:8 at times when fervent prayer is made for healing; it is time for this text to take its rightful place in our overall theology as well. If this thought pervades our entire theological system, we will once again be able to proclaim with full conviction, “For the promise [of the giving of the Holy Spirit] is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself” (Acts 2:39). But if we continue to turn our backs on this most important aspect of the nature of God, eventually we will not even be able to proclaim with full conviction that the way of salvation remains the same.
