1. IntroductionThe current obesity epidemic has reached widespread pro- portions, showing a combined increase in adult overweight and obesity prevalence of 27.5% worldwide between 1980 and 2013 (Ng et al., 2014). This is particularly concerning given that obesity is a major contributor to a number of physical and psychological health conditions, as well as increases in mortality (Flegal, Kit, & Orpana, 2013). There is therefore a desire to understand the mechanisms behind the aetiology of obesity.
