The 60 MW Mokai geothermal project is one of a number ofnew geothermal projects being developed in New Zealand bythe private sector following the deregulation of the electricityindustry. What makes the project unique is the ownershipstructure, - the development is owned by Maori (indigenouspeople) landowners, and its technology, - which allowseconomic development of the high-pressure geothermalresources.
