Assessment description
Undertake detailed organisational and environmental analysis for business development planning.
Procedure
1. Read the Case Study (see Appendix 1).
2. Using both MS Word and Excel undertake detailed organisational and environmental analysis of the case study business.

● Submit a properly formatted and logically structured document in MS Word

To be considered competent in this assessment task the Candidate must satisfactorily address the following:
● Investigate and document the goods and services provided by the organisation
● Identify strategic change needs through an analysis of strategic plans
● Identify and analyse changing trends and opportunities relevant to the organisation
● Research organisational service standards, legislation, regulations, codes of practice, values and culture to understand the organisational environment
● Review existing policies and practices against strategic objectives to identify change requirements
● Investigate innovation and reform of aspects of the business through business strategies
● Analyse and contrast current business relationships, business processes and methods
● Undertake detailed analyses of supply chains, and operational, product and service delivery systems
● Identify major operational change requirements due to performance gaps, business opportunities or threats, or management decisions
● Consult specialists and experts to assist in the identification of major change requirements/opportunities
● Evaluate the degree of likely change and the ramifications for the business and its culture for each opportunity
● Review and prioritise change requirements/opportunities with relevant staff
● Assess opportunities for innovation and business reform compatibility, with business goals and objectives, and conduct a cost-benefit analysis for each
● Undertake cost benefit analysis for high priority change requirements / opportunities
● Compare the business with competitor businesses
● Investigate information on business markets, customers and methods of doing business
● Monitor trends in the external environment to identify events or trends which impact on the achievement of organisation's objectives
● Analyse and compare the current market for the business and the customer base with typical business markets and customers
● Promote continuous improvement and sustainability as essential to doing business
● Brief groups on performance improvement strategies and innovation as an essential element of competition
● In consultation with relevant groups and individuals, develop communication or education plan to promote the benefits of the change to the organisation and to minimise loss
● Foster creative climate and organisational learning by promoting interaction within and between work groups
● Establish strategies to monitor and evaluate performance and sustainability of key systems and processes
