Secularization. Secular humans long for spiritual reality, as the rise of New Age and other exotic contemporary religions indicates. Christian faith declares that it is the final reality and that God can be known. The church offers precisely the supernatural reality denied by much of modernity. We are a company of people who live in the presence of God. We meet each week in the presence of the transcendent Christ who comes to transform people. The love of God, the ultimate supernatural reality, fills our hearts and forms our relationships. Our life in Christ is a demonstration that eternity exists in time and space.
The more secular the culture becomes, the greater the opportunity for the church to demonstrate the reality of a transcendent God who has chosen to live among us in order to change us. The church should leap at the opportunity not run from it. The world is waiting for Christian demonstration.
