Having demonstrated the qualitative features of the theory, we analyzed the photographic data in more detail. For this analysis, we compared a mode photograph to a photograph of the fundamental mode taken at the same point of observation. The mode-envelope sags or semiaxes and the mode order number could be measured directly from the photographs. The half-width of the fundamental mode was estimated directly from the photograph; no attempt was made to compensate for photographic response, however. In Figs. 12 and 13, we plot Eqs. (29) and (30) along with experimental points taken from photographs of various B-type modes. In Figs. 14 and 15, we plot Eqs. (36) and (38), along with experimental points taken from photographs of A-type modes. The functional relationships appear to be verified to within systematic errors, probably due to erroneous estimations of W0.
