He shows considerable interest in other people and is more likely than most adults to want to be around other people and to pay attention to what they say and do. Such strong interpersonal interest is ordinarily a personality asset that contributes to good social adjustment. Unfortunately, however, he appears subject to feeling uneasy when dealing with people, possibly because interpersonal situations threaten him in some way or make him feel inadequate. As a consequence, he may, despite his strong interpersonal interest, experience a maladaptive degree of social discomfort.
