2016 POSTER CONTEST
MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL BLACK FILM FESTIVAL CONTEST RULES
PLEASE NOTE that by submitting a poster project, YOU implicitly and explicitly AGREE with all of the
rules herein:
Article 1: Contest objective The Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) is organizing a
contest for its poster campaign in celebration of its 12th edition in September, 2016.
Article 2: Participation The contest is open to everyone, both professionals and amateurs. Participants
under the age of 18 must have parental consent to participate in the contest.
Article 3: Length of contest The contest is open from January 4th to March 31, 2016. Proposals must
be received by the MIBFF by March 31, 2016.
Article 4: Technical criteria The winning poster will be featured in all of the MIBFF’s communications
and publicity. It will be used for all media and press purposes including promotional materials,
interviews, press conferences, etc.
The official festival poster will produced in a range of formats (width x height):
4 x 6 feet; 27 x 40 inches; 24 x 36 inches; 18 x 24 inches; 7 x 9 inches etc.
Resolution must be at least 300 dpi.
The poster must include the following text:

Writing and images must be copyright free.
The text and poster must be vector-based and editable.
We accept the following file types: ai, eps , psd et indd,
The participant’s name or signature must not be included in the poster.
Article 5: Participation conditions
Participation is individual, free and does not require and prerequisite registration.
Each participant can submit up to three proposals.
The proposal must be accompanied by a brief description explaining the artistic choice and
symbolism of graphics used.
All proposals received after the deadline or that do not meet the criteria will be excluded from the
competition.
Article 6: Copyright Each participant submitting a proposal recognizes that he/she is the author of the
poster. The participant must also certify that the poster does not affect any third-party rights and does
not violate copyright, directly or indirectly. The winner commits to giving their complete copyright to
the Montreal International Black Film Festival and The Fabienne Colas Foundation (FCF) - founder of
the Festival. The winning poster will become the exclusive property of the Montreal International Black
Film Festival and the FCF, which reserve the right to use, modify, exhibit in the present and in the
future, sell as a by-product of the festival, adapt and reproduce the poster in any medium, without any
given time limit and in such a way that the use grants the winner or his/her family no rights other than
the award mentioned in Article 9 of the Rules and Regulations.
Article 7: Finalist selection criteria Each poster will be examined according to the following criteria:
a) the representation of the values of the Montreal International Black Film Festival – MIBFF, b) visual
quality (graphic design, colour, font), c) the ability to modify it according to the medium used for its
presentation, d) the originality of its design, e) readability, and f) simplicity. The MIBFF reserves the
right to call upon the public or not, particularly via social networks, to vote for the winner.
Article 8: Announcing the results The winner will be directly notified by the MIBFF team. The
winning project and the name of the winner will be published in July on the MIBFF website
(www.montrealblackfilm.com). The winning poster will be adopted by the MIBFF to be used in its
communications, publicity and website as well as a by-product.
Article 9: The awards The MIBFF will award a prize of $500 (Canadian dollars) to the winner. The
winner will be invited to participate in the festival with an award of a free pass to the majority of
activities. However, please note that travel, hotel or related fees will not be paid by the festival.
Article 10: Contest cancellation If the MIBFF does not have enough proposals or if none of them are
satisfactory, the festival reserves the right to extend, suspend or cancel the contest at any time. No
complaints from participants will be accepted.
Article 11: Exclusion The MIBFF reserves the right to exclude any candidates who have plagiarized the
work of another candidate or who have used copyrighted graphics.
Article 12: Following rules All candidates recognize that they are aware of these rules and accept all of
these provisions, without exception. Participants are held to:
Respect contest participation rules.
Allow for their project to be displayed publicly, on the MIBFF and partner websites.
Transfer their copyright to the MIBFF, who will become owner of the rights of the winning project.
The creator’s name will not appear on documents used for the project. (However, his/her name will
be referenced in the catalogue and on the festival website, as well as the 2016 festival press
