Data collectionData collection occurred over the course of six monthsin the spring of 2012. Data sources included one inpersoninterview with each participant and e-mail correspondencewith participants using prompts gleanedfrom interviews. Interviews were around one hour inlength and were semi-structured to feature some commonquestions for all four participants but to also allow106 R. D. SHAWDownloaded by [Temple University Libraries] at 10:04 01 June 2016individuals to pursue topics of personal importance, as“each interviewee is expected to have unique experiences,special stories to tell” (Stake 1995, 65). Interviews wereimmediately transcribed and produced 54 pages of text.
