The installation of devices on the seabed and the movementsof turbines, anchor lines and cables can have an impact onmarine habitats [3]. Sedimentation patterns, hydrodynamicsand seabed conditions can be altered, changing the benthic(the lowest level of a water body) ecosystem [19]. Thesechanges are local and have similar impact as other marineindustries that place structures in the water, and much lowerimpact than e.g. fisheries using bottom trawlers. It is difficultto distinguish which effects are caused by the devicesand which occur naturally, because benthic communities areconstantly undergoing changes under natural ocean conditions[3].
