AbstractIn2013,thefirstgunprintedoutofplasticbya3D-printerwassuc-
cessfullyfiredintheUS.Thiseventcausedamajormediahypeaboutthedangersof
beingabletoprintagun.Lawenforcementagenciesworldwidewereconcerned
aboutthisdevelopmentandthepotentiallyhugesecurityimplicationsofthese
functionalplasticguns.Asaresult,politicianscalledforabanoftheseweaponsand
acontrolof3D-printingtechnology.Thispaperreviewsthesecurityimplicationsof
3D-printingtechnologyand3Dguns.Itarguesthatcurrentarmscontrolandtransfer
policiesareadequatetocover3D-printedgunsaswell.However,whilethisanalysis
mayholdupcurrently,progressinprintingtechnologyneedstobemonitoredto
dealwithfuturedangerspre-emptively.
