Goldberg and associates (1997) in a study of 137 children—95 with chronic health conditions and 42 with no chronic illness—foundthatparenting stress, childhood negative behaviors, the parent-child relationship and the family environment were predictors of child behavioral problems. Theyalsofoundthat parenting stress wasthe strongestpredictor of childhood behaviorsand postulated that there wereseveral factorsthatcontribute to parenting stress includingthe parent-child relationship and child temperament(Goldberg et al., 1997).Goldberg and associates’(1997)study supports the theory that there is a strong relationship between parenting stress, childhood behaviors,and the parent-child relationship.
