Cognitive declines and behaviors do not affect everyone equally, and each of us will most likely develop some degree of cognitive decline to degree or another in our lifetime. Our ability to think and reason will affect how we respond to our environment and our physical conditions. Behaviors are not only challenging for caregivers, they are distressing both physically and psychologically to the person with dementia. Emotional or physical distress can negatively impact their health 1 quality of life. The severity of the behavior, when physiological and psychological needs are not met, can also attribute to the risk of and physical injury.
