The joint capsules of the posterior portion of the talocalcaneal joint and the talocalcaneonavicular portion of the subtalar joint are separated by the ligament of the tarsal canal. This ligament runs from the underside of the talus, at the sulcus tali, downward and laterally to the dorsum of the calcaneus,at the sulcus calcanei. Because it is situated medially to the axis of motion of inversion–eversion at the subtalar joint, it checks eversion.191 This ligament is often referred to as the interosseous talocalcaneal ligament (Fig. 16-15).
