The Facilitator's Role in Team Motivation A loss in motivation can slow any team's progress toward their goals. The facilitator must remain attentive to any signs of a faltering team member. Loss of purpose or loss of ownership can occur when un- realistic goals are made. Clear and consistent goals will motivate the team if a reasonable timeline for progress and completion are set and reviewed on a regular basis. It is vital to acknowledge the progress and encourage the team to communicate continuing needs. It is also helpful to understand what drives each team member. A proactive and respectful facilitator will acknowledge the team's efforts and maintain the team members' engagement level. As a result, the team will be highly functional and the dementia care program will be successful at improving the quality of life and quality of care of residents.
