1. Students are required to form a group of 6 persons.
2. Students in a group should discuss and formulate an interview plan / questions before the interview.
3. Students are required to demonstrate the basic communication and counselling skills (please refer to p.3 in part A about interview content) for the collection of information on hobbies or interest of an older adult through interview.
4. The topic of the interview can be related to the hobbies or interest of an older adult from their young age to the present time. The purpose of the interview is assumed to collect information about an older adult’s hobbies or interests in order to design an activity for him/her.
5. Each group of students invites an older adult (who can be a friend or relative) to be interviewed for 15 – 20 minutes. The interview process has to be video-taped.
6. Each student has to wear a name tag so that he/she can be easily identified in the video. For the sake of confidentiality, the older adults can turn their back to the camera.
7. All students are required to participate in the interview and talk to the older adults. The interview can be conducted in Cantonese.
8. Video should be burned in a CD-ROM and submitted to the lecturer.
Part B – Group report
1. After the interview taken place, students in a group are required to write a report (refer to the report template below) on the communication and counselling skills they have applied in the video.
2. Students have to describe how the communication and counseling skills are applied in the interview with evidence. Students have to identify the barriers of communication and counselling in the interview.
3. Students have to describe what further actions they will take to improve the interview if they have a chance to do the interview again. Students have to and make suggestions for the improvement in the interview.
