across the city. Future studies need improved public transport accessibility measures, such as employment or other opportunities within a
30 min travel time catchment from home, or relative travel times to workplaces by public transport and car, if they are to further
understanding of the potential of public transport systems to support active lifestyles. Better evidence will enable transport planners to
factor health considerations into public transport system planning, in particular elemental decisions on the size of walking catchments,
which in turn have major ramifications for system efficiency, ridership levels, access to social and economic opportunities, population
health and environmental sustainability. It is vital that public health and transport planners work together to understand how the synergy
between active travel and public transport system efficiency can best be leveraged to benefit human and planetary health.
