In two previous studies (Gardner 1985; Mitchell and Olson 1981) four scales were used to measure A'd: good/bad, dislike/like, not irritating/irritating, and uninteresting/interesting. Cronbach alpha reliabilities of .87, .78, and .86 were reported for three different ads. The scales we used correspond closely in content to the second and fourth scales used in the other studies and yielded a Cronbach alpha reliability of .85 in both experiments.
