We must learn to take our cues from God as he revealed himself in Christ. While the changing culture does form a most significant part of our formation and function as pastors, our primary cues must not come from the culture. And though the churches we serve are subcultures with their own forms, styles, traditions, and expectations, the churches do not give us our orders. And although the professional world has much to offer the church and pastors in a rapidly changing world, management techniques dare not define the work of God’s servants.
