Make activities purposeful. The goal of church activities must be to accomplish the mission of the church. There is no reason to have activity just to keep people occupied. Winning the lost, training those who have received Christ, and developing all of God’s people for His work and service must be the goal and purpose of every activity.
Invest resources wisely. Knowing the resources is the pastor’s first step. Under his or her leading, the church must know what resources are available in people, finances, and materials. The pastor leads the church to identify goals, set priorities, and use the resources to the best advantage.
Evaluate goals. You can evaluate your activities when you establish goals and make the purpose clear. Goals may be short term or long term. Each time you set goals, set a time period for attaining the goal. When you reach the end of that time period, you can evaluate your efforts. Did you accomplish your goal? Did you order your priorities properly? What did you accomplish? Where did you fall short? How can you improve? These are some of the questions you use for evaluation.*
It is the shepherd’s responsibility to lead the flock and to help it fulfill its mission. Pastors should align their personal goals for life and ministry with the threefold mission of the church.
