In this thesis，I have attempted to compare interrogative questions both in English and French．
The fundamental assumption of this paper is to see whether the derivation of English and French
questions in accordance with the operation principles of UG(Universal Grammat)．By making
use of controlled group comparison，that is，by putting different interrogative sentences into
different groups under certain conditions，I've found that English and French interrogative
questions，either general questions，or special questions，or alterative questions，undergo overt
movement，namely,head movement and operator movement，at syntactic level，and their
meaning get realized，except tag questions，for French has no tag questions in real sense．They
