In front of Sanxia Zushi Temple, there are a pair of stone lions, one is female and the other is male. The female stone lion is carved to have a child lion between her paws, while the male stone lion is holding a coin with one paw. The most notably is the stone lions carving integrate into a concept of gender equality. In ancient time, people believed that the women should be quiet, thus the mouth of female stone lion is carved to close. However, Sanxia Zushi Temple designer was Lee Mei-Shu, because he had a concept of gender equality, so he designed the mouth of the female stone lion was open. Moreover, there is a ball inside the stone lion’s mouth, it’s not easy to carver a ball in the stone lion’s mouth, it tests the skill of the carver.
